(cont) That scene is the FIRST time Jackson sees Tim really doing something that is pushing the line. Almost over the line really. I mean, he straight up threatened a suspect with violent bodily harm. I feel like that had to be a real eye-opener for Jackson, not only to the fact that Tim is not quite as the "rules are the rules" as he originally thought, but also how far he's willing to push his own ethics in order to help Lucy.

(cont) But I think part of it is also because she recognizes that his concern for Lucy is beyond what he normally has for a typical rookie. Contrast that with Jackson, who, to this point, only has his one personal experience and what he hears from Lucy to go on. We know from more recent episodes that Lucy complains about Tim to him a lot. And all the rookies know that he's a hardass, but he really is very much, you know, the rules are important.

It's interesting to see how the other characters react to watching Tim go through this kind of emotional wringer. Angela, obviously, has some insight into Tim that I think even we as the audience don't fully understand. Like, Tim makes that call to her, with the line about Lucy being taken. And then when they're talking at the station, she doesn't even blink at his distress. Part of it might be because she knows how personally and seriously he takes the training of his rookies.

You guys are so right with Nolan trying to say they dated lol DOD is literally my favorite episode simply because it’s clear a line has been crossed in Chenford. Like they can never go back to how things used to be. Loved this podcast, loved these two episodes!!!
